Indonesia considers reducing nickel mining quotas in 2025

According to media reports, the Indonesian government is considering a reduction in the mining quotas for nickel ore in 2025. After the quotas for nickel ore in 2024 were around 272 million tons, these could be reduced by up to 45% (approx. 122 million tons) next year.

According to government sources, this should strengthen nickel prices in 2025. Another reason for this is probably that the known Indonesian stocks of high-grade nickel ore (nickel content 1.5%+) are dwindling rapidly and are likely to be exhausted in a few years. In recent months, government representatives have increasingly drawn attention to this fact.
